Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 (EAWR) places a legal responsibility on employers and employees, as duty holders, to ensure that electrical systems used at work under their control are safe.
To achieve compliance with the legal requirements of the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 requires proof that an electrical system is safe, which involves amongst other things, proper inspection and testing of a system by competent people and the creation and maintenance of records. Periodic Inspection and Testing to BS7671 2008, for all aspects of an electrical installation up to 415 volt.
Test Engineers are J.I.B qualified including City & Guilds 2391 “ Inspection and Testing”. The frequency of testing is generally 5 years for commercial and 10 years for domestic.
Lightning Protection Test and Inspection to BS6651, inspections should be repeated at fixed intervals, not exceeding 12 months. If intervals are fixed at 11 months it means that the system will have been tested throughout every season of the year over a period of 11 years.
